Market Gardener / Farmer
Market gardeners/Farmers are the crop producers and livestock caretakers. Sowing seeds, watering, harvesting, pruning trees, preparing orders... Rotating grazers, feeding, collecting eggs, cleaning sheds... These are a few examples of everyday duties that keep our ecosystem healthy and the world fed.
The experience levels bellow reflect independence and expertise, not tasks performed. Gardeners of all levels carry out the same core farm duties.

No experience required. Novice gardeners are fully supervised and trained. Trustworthiness and keenness to learn are the only expectations.
Intermediate

Can perform daily tasks with little supervision.

Accomplishes all regular tasks without supervision (e.g. following crop plan) & knows the daily tasks.
Expert I: Crop production

Manager

Decides on tasks and order of tasks, manages labor (scheduling, hiring), cost decisions, some minimal conceptualization, creates crop plan and physical garden plan. Complete agronomic, distribution, cultivation and raising management.

Handypersons are our farm's superpower. They support all the farm's work by performing a variety of jobs as needs change through the year. They are also the craftpersons in Jardin des Collines' new tools and technology development. Types of jobs include: construction of farm buildings, building greenhouses, setting up irrigation systems, milling, small machinery repair...
No specific training or experience is required, but must be comfortable with basic carpentry and moving heavy materials. Some experience with metal work would be an advantage. All tools are provided.
